Chinese Premier Meets Nepalese King

China will actively implement the consensus reached between Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Nepalese King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, said Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji in Beijing on Thursday.

Zhu said during a meeting with Gyanendra that the Chinese Government would make great efforts to deliver on agreements reached on many vital issues during the talks between Jiang and the king on Wednesday.

Zhu said he believed the king's successful visit to China would have an important and very positive impact on the future of bilateral ties.

The premier visited Nepal last year. The two countries signed several agreements during that visit which were steadily being implemented by China, Zhu said.

A special team of buyers dispatched by Chinese trade departments to Nepal had bought a lot of Nepalese goods, Zhu told the king.

"The Chinese Government will encourage and support more Chinese businesses to cooperate with their Nepalese counterparts," he said."By participating in the economic construction of Nepal, they will help the Nepalese people."

Zhu said the Chinese Government understood and supported the series of measures by the Nepalese king and government aimed at safeguarding independence and territorial integrity and maintaining social stability and economic growth.

Gyanendra said he would uphold the friendly foreign policy towards China initiated by his late father and brother.

The king said his country would spare no effort to keep friendship and trust alive between Nepal and China.

Praising China's economic achievements, he said Nepal hoped to learn from China's experience. Nepal thanked China for its understanding and support for its efforts in fighting against terrorism and resolving social and economic difficulties.

Gyanendra said Nepal was keen to see more Chinese tourists and entrepreneurs visiting his country.
