China's Concern over Iraq Issue lies in Three Aspects

China is concerned about the profound influence the military action may have on regional and global peace.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan says China's concern over the Iraq issue lies in three main aspects.

China is concerned about the military action that has been launched against Iraq, in complete disregard of the strong hope and appeal of most countries and their peoples for peace and bypassing the UN Security Council.

China is also concerned about the lives and property of the Iraqi people and the profound influence the military action may have on regional and global peace.

Kong Quan says in resolving the Iraq issue, China keeps in mind that the unity and authority of UN Security Council should be maintained and the seriousness of the Council's Resolution 1441 and other previous resolutions upheld. He adds that of the 190-plus members of the United Nations, the overwhelming majority stand for a political solution of the Iraq issue, and so do most members of the Security Council.
